Seamus Coleman remains an Everton player but his contract with the club is due to expire at the end of the current Premier League season.

The Ireland right-back has one of the biggest bargains in league history, having joined The Toffees for just £60,000 from Sligo Rovers before going on to establish himself as one of the best full-backs in the game.

Captain for club and country, the Donegal native has been blighted by injuries in recent seasons - starting just nine PL matches since injuring his knee in May 2023.

Now 36, Coleman's time as an Everton player, which began in 2009, is subject to speculation with compatriot Jake O'Brien thriving in his absence on the right side of the Everton defence,

Coleman has already juggled multiple roles on and off the pitch this season, taking interim charge of Everton alongside Leighton Baines when Sean Dyche was dismissed.

Moyes backs Seamus Coleman to become a coach

The return of David Moyes saw Coleman return to his regular duties, but the Scotsman has hinted that he could have a future in a coaching role at the club.

Moyes, who signed Coleman in his first stint in charge, suggested that he would thrive in a coaching capacity if injuries continue to halt his playing ambitions.

You don’t just keep people for the sake of keeping them because if you did every club would have hundreds of old players there,’ Moyes explained.

‘But if we had our way, we would try and keep Séamus around definitely.

‘Séamus might be a great person to have around as an extra who, if he wasn’t playing all the games, might be able to play in the Under-21s.

‘There are a lot of teams who have gone with that sort of thing. He could also maybe be a coach with the younger boys if that is what he chooses to do. We might still decide to keep him on anyway, but for me Séamus picking up the injuries is the problem.

‘When you are injured, it breaks you down as an individual and it takes too long to get back and missing training and not keeping up.’

Coleman has been limited to just four appearances this season and has not featured since Everton held Manchester City 1-1 on St Stephen's Day.

However, Moyes clearly holds him in a high regard and it appears there is a future for him at the club if he is to call time on his playing career.
