Stoke were knocked out of the League Cup by Crawley on Tuesday night, losing in a penalty shootout after the game finished 1-1 after 90 minutes.

17 minutes into the second half, 18-year-old Ireland underage international Nathan Collins was red carded for a challenge on Crawley's Panutche Camara.

Stoke manager Nathan Jones said that the club will appeal the decision. Collins was making his third start of the season for Stoke and his fifth appearance in all.

"We probably will appeal against it because we don’t think it was a red card," Collins told the Stoke Sentinel.

“But he gave the referee a decision to make and at the moment referees’ decisions are going against us on every single occasion.

"It’s disappointing but we keep giving referees decisions to make and we’re coming out on the back of them.

"It’s a mistake, a rush of blood, a bad touch. It’s not a lack of effort, it’s a decision."
