A Swedish newspaper has been forced to apologise after one of their journalists compared Red Bull Salzburg to both Adolf Hitler and Josef Fritzl in a Champions League preview article.

The Austrian club face Sweden's Malmo in a Champions League play-off and Aftonbladet football writer Ronnie Sandahl was given the simple task of previewing the match. One must wonder how many editors read over the piece and gave this introduction the ok?

Austria has not only given us Josef Fritzl and Adolf Hitler. There is also Red Bull Salzburg, the most hated foorball club of our time.

When [Malmo and Red Bull] play each other in the two decisive Champions League games, people from all over the world will support the Swedes.

Oh dear! If being likened to both a race-hating, mass-murderer and a serial rapist doesn't constitute defamation, we're not sure what does.

Sandahl's article has sparked a furore in Austria with the president of the FA claiming that it insults not only the football team, but the entire nation.

Red Bull Salzburg have confirmed that the newspaper's editor-in-chief has contacted the club to apologise.
