Paul McGrath is one of the finest footballers this country has ever produced, and he's also fondly remembered at Manchester United, where he made 163 appearances over seven years at the club.

We can't help but think how useful McGrath would be for tonight's playoff with Bosnia & Herzegovina, but the man himself has been speculating about who his ideal playing partner would be if he were to jump into the current Manchester United squad, and while it is a bit of a surprise, the reasoning does make sense.

Speaking to Manchester United fansite Stretty News, McGrath explained why himself and Daley Blind would make a great partnership at the heart of a defence:

Daley Blind, that kid is cool. You need someone who can just take the ball down and say "I'm not just gonna lash it forward or play it square", and Daley Blind is a beautiful footballer, and I would loved to have played with someone like that who would pass it across to you and say "You deal with it now, and if you need to give it back to me, give it back to me". Daley Blind is one of those, and I swear to Christ, he's going to be a huge United player.

There you have it, a strong endorsement of the Dutch defender from one of the best defenders to play for Manchester United.

The interview with Stretty News has a number of interesting quotes and anecdotes from McGrath, from the direction the current squad is heading in, to the best player he ever played with, and you can watch it in full here:
