Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has told the agent of star player Siriki Dembele that he can "get to fuck" after he handed in a transfer request at the weekend.

Although not mentioned by name in the Instagram post, speculation surrounding Dembele's name has been circulating for weeks, with Celtic, Rangers, Fulham and Watford all interested in the winger.

MacAnthony used his Instagram account to comment on the rumours of Dembele handing in a transfer request, using the opportunity to lambast the player's agent for utilising underhand tactics to secure a deal in the winter transfer window.

"So obviously we have been contacted by various outlets today about a transfer request that came into us which I woke up to yesterday.

"This is just an agent playing games, this is what they do unfortunately.

"And players always fall for it or go for it, I don't know why they do.

"So yes, the player asked for a transfer request. I didn't expect it and certainly didn't expect it over the weekend".

MacAnthony stated that the player, much like every other in League One, is for sale, but only if a club matches the valuation of the player.

He also urged the player to "be professional" despite the news, with Peterborough in the midst of a promotion chase to the Championship.

Dembele is the brother of Celtic wonderkid Karamoko Dembele, with Siriki his elder by seven years.

The winger, who can play for the Ivory Coast, England or Scotland, started his career in the academies of Dundee United and Ayr United.

Subsequently, Dembele joined the now-dissolved Nike Academy, joining Grimsby Town before arriving at the Posh in 2018.
