Ex-Man United Defender Makes Odd Roy Keane Comparison To Defend Bruno Fernandes

Considering the form Manchester United have displayed over the last number of weeks, it's fair to say that many of their supporters will not be looking forward to the team's trip to Anfield next weekend. Of course, the task will be made even more difficult by the absence of Bruno Fernandes.

The midfielder received a yellow card for dissent in the closing stages of the loss to Bournemouth yesterday, and with that being his fifth booking of the season, he will be suspended for the visit to Liverpool.

It was a needless booking to pick up, with Richard Keys putting forward a wild conspiracy theory relating to the reasoning behind it yesterday:

I think he knew he gets booked and I think he knew he misses the game. That for me sums him up. He's not a captain, he's not a leader.

His position there has been question by proper Manchester United captains, people like Roy Keane, all season long.

That is a big claim, one not everyone was impressed by.

Phill Neville makes Bruno Fernandes/Roy Keane comparison

Bruno Fernandes can be a petulant character at times, although some are unhappy that it was suggested that he would purposely look to miss a Manchester United game.

Speaking on NBC Sports, former United defender Phil Neville labelled Richard Keys' comments as a 'disgrace'. He went on to say that other club captains such as Roy Keane have complained to referees in that manner in the past.

I think that's ridiculous talk - whoever said that in public is a disgrace. If you look at Bruno Fernandes, I love Bruno Fernandes, he cares about Manchester United.

Look at the teams in the top six, that's the one player I'd take. Look at the one player who comes out after a defeat - it's Bruno Fernandes.

Captains over the years have played like Bruno Fernandes. Roy Keane whinged and whined like Bruno Fernandes. In this team, he's the best player, he plays right wing, centre midfield and he just gets on with it because he cares about the club.

Roy Keane may have complained to referees at times, but he certainly did not do so in the same manner as Bruno Fernandes. The Portuguese player waves his hands in frustration at both his teammates and officials in almost every game and has given up in the middle of games when things went against him on more than one occasion.

The midfielder may be absent for the game against Liverpool, but he will be available for the Champions League against Bayern Munich in midweek.

A big performance in that one will be needed if the club are to have any chance of progressing to the knockout rounds.
