Today should have been a good day for Phil Neville. The former Everton captain was today announced as the manager of the England Women's national team on a three year deal.

But alas, he is currently at the centre of a twitter shitstorm. After the appointment, due to the magic of the internet, people were quick to bring up a tweet from Nevill in 2012 where he made an ill-advised tweet.

Neville tweeted 'morning men' and followed it up with this tweet:

A tasteless joke, or genuine sexism... probably the former but in any case Neville has deleted his Twitter account in the wake of the online backlash:

Neville has previous with dodgy tweets, seemingly making light of domestic abuse with this effort in 2011:

You would wonder how Neville could think, that in this day and age that these attempts at humour are befitting of a professional football manager. It will be interesting to see how the FA deal with the situation and Neville could hardly have had a more inauspicious begin to his (short-lived?) reign. Big Sam is in serious danger of having his record broken...
