Gavin Bazunu is a hugely exciting talent. He has long been touted as a potential star, but his growth over the last 12 months has been remarkable.

It is easy to forget that this time last year Bazunu had yet to play a minute of international football. His Ireland debut would not come until March, with the 19-year old since going from strength to strength.

Despite having only ten international caps to his name, he radiates the presence of a player with multiple times that number under his belt.

It is not only Ireland that have felt the benefit of this. The Dubliner has starred on loan at Portsmouth this season, helping the club in their ambition to push from promotion from League One. He has kept eight clean sheets in 18 league appearances in this campaign, with the club massively impressed with what they have seen from the Manchester City loanee.

Speaking to Hampshire Live, Portsmouth boss Danny Cowley said he expects Bazunu to go right to the top of the game in the years ahead, saying this after his "flawless" performance over Gillingham at the weekend.

He’s going to be top. He’s going to be a top goalkeeper.

One thing I wasn’t concerned about was how he was going to respond to a couple of mistakes that he made.

I just believe so much in him, in his competency but also him as a human being.

Bazunu certainly has the potential to be a top class goalkeeper, showing the type of composure that few others of his age could replicate in that position.

The player was also today nominated for the PFAI Irish Overseas Player of the Year award.

He is likely to spend the next few seasons out on loan, with clubs in the Championship and even the Premier League sure to be interested in his services next summer.

It will be interesting to see if he can make a push for the number one jersey at Manchester City in the seasons ahead. He certainly has the talent to do so.
