Premier League broadcasting rights may be set for a massive change in the not too distant future.

Irish and British fans get to watch Premier League games on Sky Sports and BT Sport, with an additional 3pm game being shown every Saturday exclusively for Irish fans on Sky.

The next three year rights cycle begins from the 2019-2020 season, but bidding will begin before the end of this year.

Speaking to some of the club's shareholders, Manchester United's vice-chairman Ed Woodward expects Facebook and Amazon to bid on the chance to broadcast games from the season after next.

Absolutely, I think they will enter the mix; anecdotally, there was incredibly strong interest in the last cycle. We are hearing that around the Premier League table, and we are also hearing that from a European perspective in terms of interest in the Champions League and Europa rights.

I do think we are going to see an increasing engagement from these, and we would welcome the interest.

Earlier this year, Amazon won the rights to broadcast ATP Tour tournaments from 2019. That means the likes of Rafa Nadal, Roger Federer and Andy Murray will not be on the likes of Sky Sports in non-Grand Slam tournaments after next year.

The news of Facebook and Amazon potentially entering the bidding for Premier League games could spell disaster for Sky Sports and BT Sport. Sky have broadcast Premier League matches since the league's inception, while BT snatched the Champions League rights from Sky last season.

Sky Sports reportedly paid around £11million a game to keep their amount of Premier League matches in the current deal. That amount may have to substantially increase if they are to keep as many games as they currently have.
