While the summer transfer window had already been open for a number of weeks, there had been little movement on the Caoimhín Kelleher's Liverpool future.

It had been said that the Irishman was keen to leave Anfield in search of first team football ahead of next season, although the club were understandably hesitant to lose one of the most reliable backup goalkeepers in the division. A fee of £20million had been mooted as an offer they would have to consider.

Kelleher was linked with quite a few Premier League clubs towards the end of last season, although his pool of potential destinations had shrank significantly since then. The likes of Spurs, Brentford, and Brighton, all of whom were said to be interested in the 24-year old, had pursued other goalkeeping options.

As a result, it was looking increasingly unlikely that a club would meet the asking price set by Liverpool.

However, one potential option has now emerged.

Caoimhín Kelleher could be offered Liverpool escape by PL side

Mail Sport are reporting that Wolves are interested in signing Caoimhín Kelleher from Liverpool this summer.

Julen Lopetegui's side could be in the market for a new goalkeeper in the coming weeks, with current no. 1 Jose Sa heavily linked with a move to Nottingham Forest. Should he move on, it is said that the Cork native is their first choice replacement.

This would be a brilliant move for Kelleher. He would play week in, week out under a top class manager at a club that will be aiming to fight for a top half finish this season having shown plenty of improvement in the second half of the last campaign.

He would also be the only Irish goalkeeper playing consistently in the Premier League next season, something that would boost his hopes of usurping Gavin Bazunu as no. 1 at international level.

Wolves will have to make a significant bid in order to get Liverpool to sell, although you would imagine that they would have little trouble coming up with the desired fee if Kelleher is indeed their first choice Sa replacement.

From an Irish perspective, it would be brilliant to see him make this move.
