Caoimhín Kelleher is coming to somewhat of a crossroads in his career this summer.

There is no doubt that the Cork man is a hugely talented goalkeeper, as he has shown during his limited opportunities for both Ireland and Liverpool. He now needs to get some consistent playing time to move his career onto the next level.

Up until this point, he has been content to fill the backup role at Anfield and benefit from the coaching available at a top class club in order to improve his game. He has made serious strides over the last two years as a result. He's made a few memorable Champions League performances, and was a hero in Liverpool's domestic cup runs last season.

It is true that he still has plenty of time on his side, with many goalkeepers not really establishing themselves as first choice at a high level until their mid-20s. In saying that, the 24-year old is now more than capable of being a no. 1 at club level.

Liverpool will be hesitant to lose him this summer, with Kelleher being one of the most reliable backups in the Premier League. However, the club will likely miss out on the Champions League next season and it has been said that they will not stand in his way should he wish to leave and an acceptable bid arrive.

One potential interested party has now been identified.

Caoimhín Kelleher linked with summer Premier League move

The Sun are reporting that Brentford are lining up a move for Caoimhín Kelleher this summer.

The Bees look likely to lose their first choice goalkeeper David Raya at the end of the season, with Manchester United and Spurs among the clubs linked with the Spanish international. Should a team meet their £35million asking price for the player, they are said to have identified the Irishman as his ideal replacement.

It is thought that Liverpool will seek up to £20million in order to let Kelleher leave the club, although you'd imagine there is some room to negotiate in that figure considering his relative lack of experience in top level football. Brighton are also said to be keeping an eye on his situation as the transfer window approaches.

Should he opt to leave Anfield, becoming the new no. 1 at Brentford would be a sensational move for the Cork native. They are a club very much on the rise, one that has shown they are adept at developing emerging talents into quality Premier League players.

A consistent run of games in the English top flight would also strengthen his case to become first choice for Ireland, with Gavin Bazunu having recently been dropped by Southampton.

This is certainly one to keep an eye on in the weeks and months ahead.
