An astonishing clip from a Scottish radio football talk show this week captures the unhinged moment a Rangers fan rang the show from his wife's bedside - as she was in labour in a Glasgow hospital.

The hosts of Clyde 1 Superscoreboard were in disbelief when Rangers fan Richard revealed he was in the Royal Alexandra Hospital in the suburbs of Glasgow, by his wife's side in the Maternity Ward.

His wife Gemma would even chime in on the call - revealing that she was a Celtic fan, before her husband joked he would have to fight her to prevent their newborn being named after Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou.

The surreal clip is one of the most remarkable passages of sports radio we've ever heard.

Rangers fan calls talk show from wife's bedside as she goes through labour

Superscoreboard - the nightly football chat show on Scottish radio station Clyde 1 - took an unexpected turn on Tuesday night, when Rangers supporting Richard phoned the show from the maternity wing of a Glasgow hospital.

The nature of the situation became clear when host Gordon Duncan asked why Richard was in hospital, to which he replied, "I'm with my wife, she's in labour so we've got the radio on in the background listening to the show."

Duncan, along with studio guests Gordon Dalziel and Hugh Keevins, was in disbelief, clarifying that he had heard the caller correctly.

Richard's wife Gemma went on to speak to the studio guests herself, as host Duncan proclaimed that it must have been a first in the history of the station.

When asked if she was also a Rangers fan, Gemma revealed she in fact supports bitter rivals Celtic - and Richard joked, "Gemma's a Celtic fan and I'm a Rangers fan. I'm fighting against baby Ange with the name!"

The entire show was uploaded to YouTube on Tuesday night, capturing the surreal moment that left the hosts near-speechless.

Host Gordon Duncan went on to sum up the situation by saying:

I don't often become speechless, because we've had weird ones before. Someone phoned from the bath - that sticks out. Someone else phoned from the sunbed, that was particularly bizarre.

This tops the lot!

We better get the call over and done with, in case things start to escalate!

Remarkably, a lengthy discussion ensued between Richard and the studio guests on Rangers' financial standing and current transfer policy.

Priorities and all that...
