Mental Scenes As Real Betis Win Copa Del Rey Final In Dramatic Circumstances

Real Betis celebrated their third ever Copa del Rey win last night, after defeating Valencia 5-4 on penalties. Considering it was their first triumph in the competition since 2005, it should come as no surprise that there were some brilliant scenes after the match.

Managed by former Man City boss Maunel Pelligrini, Betis went ahead in normal time through a header from Borja Iglesias, who got on the end of a cross from ex-Arsenal man Hector Bellerin.

The lead was subsequently cancelled out by Valencia’s Huro Duro, as the attacker produced a tidy finish by chipping Betis’ keeper Claudio Bravo. Bravo is an ex-Manchester City and Barcelona keeper, and a Chile legend who has won 143 caps for his country.

Betis hit the post twice, and would have been livid that they could not secure a victory before spot-kicks decided the outcome.

French forward Nabil Fekir was also on the pitch for Betis. He was part of France’s World Cup winning squad of 2018 and has often been linked to a move to the Premier League.

When penalties came both side were fairly clinical, and it was only Valencia’s American teenager Yusuf Musah who missed from the spot. Juan Miranda then hit the winner for Betis.

Also on the pitch was 40 year old Joaquin, who was part of Betis’ last Copa Del Rey win in 2005. The veteran came off the bench and scored one of his side's penalty kicks.

Despite it being 1am by the time they lifted the trophy, the supporters were certainly still in a raucous mood.

Their attentions will now turn to the league, where Betis still have an outside chance of claiming a Champions League spot for next season.

They currently sit in fifth place, five points four points behind Atletico Madrid in fourth.
