It was a cruel turn events that meant that CSKA Moscow's 3-0 away win at the Bernabeu would count for nothing, the Russian side finishing bottom of the group after Victoria Plzen beat Roma 2-1 to claim third spot in group G, securing Euopa league qualification in the process.

CSKA were good value for their win as well, with two great goals from Fedor Chalov and Arnor Sigurdsson lighting up proceedings as a second string Real Madrid never got going in their final group match.

This was Santiago Solari's second loss as Real Madrid boss, and although there was nothing riding on the game other than pride, he will be concerned about the manner of the capitulation from his side, who never really looked like getting back into the game.

There will also be concern about Gareth Bale, who left the field of play in the second half after an ankle issue.
