Manchester United are reportedly close to securing their first signing of the season in Porto right back Diogo Dalot. According to the Telegraph, the club have activated a €20 million release clause in the 19-year-old's contract, with the outlet also writing that Dalot has agreed terms with the Manchester club.

United have managed to beat off competition from European heavyweights Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus and Napoli in order to secure the youngsters signature.

The Portugese defender is seen as an understudy to veteran defender Antonio Valencia, with the 32-year-old struggling with knee injuries over the past few seasons.

Dalot broke into Porto's first team back in February and played in his side's 0-0 draw at Liverpool in the Champions League first knockout round, but has only made seven appearances for the Portugese side in total.

In October he was named as Porto's young player of the year.

Dalot helped Portugal win the 2016 UEFA European Under-17 Championship, scoring twice in five games as Portugal beat Spain in the final.

United are exptected to offload Matteo Darmian to Juventus for £11.5 million in order to make room for the incoming Dalot, with the Italian failing to impress United boss Jose Mourinho during his spell at Manchester.
