It's been a pretty awful week for Barcelona, as their greatest ever player Lionel Messi was confirmed to leave the club - and it could get even worse, as reports in Spain suggest that Sergio Aguero also wants out.

Messi was forced to leave his boyhood club after 21 years in Catalonia, due to financial restraints. Barca are reported to be in upwards of €450mn worth of debt, significantly limiting what they could feasibly pay Messi.

Sergio Aguero "angry" with Barcelona over Messi departure

Former Man City striker Aguero was confirmed as a Barcelona player earlier this summer, having run down the final year of his contract in Manchester. The Argentinean was reportedly convinced to come to the club (at least in part) due to the promise of playing with Messi at club level.

Now, Catalan site betevé are reporting that Aguero is unhappy with Barcelona's broken promise, and is looking for a way out of the club.

Due to Barcelona's financial difficulties, Aguero has not been formally registered with La Liga as a Barca player, meaning that there may be a way for him to annul his contract before the season begins. He has reportedly enlisted the services of his lawyers to explore whether leaving the club would be an option.

Aguero's desire to leave is in stark contrast to his comments when he signed for the club in May, when he called Barca the "best club in the world" and said:

I think I made a good decision. I hope I can help the team. Of course, coming here is a step forward for my career. I hope I can help the team. Of course, coming here is a step forward for my career.

I am very happy. I hope that I will help the team to win trophies. The most important thing is that I want to play, to help this team. If the team succeeds, I will be happy.

Losing Messi has already been damaging enough for Barca, but losing their marquee summer signing would be the worst way to end an already bad week. Their forward line is stacked with options, with Antoine Griezmann, Ousmane Dembelé and Ansu Fati all still on the club's books, but this stack of talent appears to have taken its toll on the club financially.

It remains to be seen whether more will come from Sergio Aguero's unhappiness at Barcelona, but it's not looking great for La Blaugrana as it stands.
