Sensational reports have emerged that Lionel Messi could be returning to Barcelona from PSG next summer.
The 35-year-old spent 17 years at Barcelona, where he became one of the greatest players of all time left the club in 2021 and signed a two-year contract with PSG.
In his first season in France, he had a disappointing season for his standards, scoring 11 goals and making 14 assists in all competitions. However, alongside Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, Messi has enjoyed a strong start to the season, with seven goals and eight assists in all competitions.
With his contract running out next summer, speculation has been mounting on what’s next for the Argentinian forward.
However, today provided the biggest indication that he may be returning to the Nou Camp, with Argentine journalist Veronica Brunati tweeting “July 1, 2023, Lionel Messi will be a Barca player.”

Should he return to Barcelona, it would be the perfect way to end an remarkable career.
During his time at Barcelona, Messi achieved everything there is to accomplish in football, in some of the greatest sides history has ever seen.
Messi scored 672 goals, winning over 30 trophies, while also winning the Ballon d’Or award seven times. It’s unlikely his achievements will ever be matched again in football, with his remarkable 91 goals in 2012 an example of his insane talent.

Should he re-join Barcelona, it would be an exciting moment for the club, after a difficult few years of financial difficulties, that has resulted in results slipping on the pitch.
With young talents such as Pedri, Gavi and Ansu Fati all progressing, they would have the best mentor in the world in Messi to help them progress to the next level.
However, Barcelona are still in financial difficulties, and may not be able to afford Messi’s wages without a high-profile player leaving the club.
At 35-years-old, is it worth the risk?
