Liverpool have won the race to sign Netherlands forward Cody Gakpo from PSV.

Gakpo is wanted by several clubs from across Europe, including rivals Manchester United, who were heavily linked with him last summer.

However, they opted to sign Brazil winger Antony from Ajax for three times the price. While it was presumed they would try once again for Gakpo in January, they may have missed their chance.

Despite having the same agent as Eric Ten Hag, the 23-year-old spoke on what could be next after Manchester United failed to complete a transfer.

I thought about Manchester United, but when that didn’t happen, I couldn’t remember. And I started to doubt. Leeds United did come. Should I go there? Now I wait everything. I haven’t heard from Manchester United yet. When they come, I’ll think about it. I also seek the help of God in these decisions.”

PSV have now confirmed that Gakpo will be sold to Liverpool. The Dutch club confirmed the news this evening, after several reports that the deal would set to be completed in the coming days.

Right now, Gakpo is one of the best signings Liverpool could make due to their injuries. Luis Diaz and Diego Jota are out through injury, and Darwin Nunez hasn't set the standards that was hoped.

Liverpool fans have been frustrated with their business in recent transfer windows, with the FSG owners under pressure to sell the club.

However, the signing of the Netherlands forward, who can play across the front three, would be a huge boost in a disappointing season for Liverpool

Despite a 3-1 win over Aston Villa earlier today, it's been a difficult season for Liverpool, they currently lie five points outside the top four, and 15 behind league leaders Arsenal.
