Ireland were chasing the game against England in the Euro 92 qualifier at Lansdowne Road. Mick McCarthy surveyed his options, saw nothing he liked and decided the best thing to do was have a pop.

The wind is rarely regarded as a factor, never mind an asset, for the sophisticates of football these days - or in them days for the most part.

But it was then.

Like 90% of the matches Ireland played between 1989 and 1992, the game is now considered to be a prime candidate for the worst international football match of all time shortlist. But this should be up there with Ronaldinho in our biased opinion.
