"You Can't Buy History" - Brendan Rodgers Has Little Dig For PSG

Although the Celtic job comes with certain inevitable expectations, in 18 months, Brendan Rodgers has largely exceeded them.

Currently overseeing a 64 game unbeaten run domestically, Rodgers has somehow managed not to allow their incessant good-form translate into a mundane procession - Celtic remain entertaining to watch.

One area where regrets will linger is his European record however.

With two games remaining in the group stages of the Champions League for Celtic, qualification for the last 16 of the competition is already beyond them - being paired with Paris St. Germain and Bayern Munich didn't help his cause.

Fighting it out with Anderlecht for the 3rd place finish that would gain them entry to the Europa League's last 32, Celtic currently have the upper-hand.

Facing the Belgians in match-day 6 of the tournament, tonight's task sees Rodgers and Celtic travel to Paris. A tie they will hardly be expected to take anything from - they lost 5-0 in Park Head - Rodgers is using the time to indulge in some mind-games it seems.

While PSG are thriving in the Champions League thus far, reports of unrest among the squad have been a constant since Neymar's record-breaking move from Barcelona in the summer.

What with their abundant resources, Rodgers has taken time to identify the one thing all PSG's money can't buy:

PSG are trying to create a history here and that takes a number of years. You can't buy history, it is about winning trophies, winning titles.

Celtic have something a lot of clubs don’t have – a rich history, a support and a fanbase a lot of clubs don’t have. Speak about PSG in 20 years time and see where they are.

'Status' is a topic that Rodgers requires very little encouragement to speak about; it was of similar importance to him when managing Liverpool.

Commenting that PSG's ability to spend such copious amounts of money essentially 'makes a mockery' of Financial Fair Play, Rodgers will be hopeful that his Celtic side can hold their own against the assembly of stars that so ruthlessly tormented them in Glasgow.

A point could potentially be enough to secure that coveted 3rd spot.
