Rio Ferdinand praised Manchester United midfielder Casemiro for his display as Manchester United came from behind to defeat Everton 2-1 at Goodison Park.

Casemiro made is first start for Manchester United tonight in the Premier League with his appearances until now coming as a substitute and starts in the Europa League.

The defensive midfielder was one of the most surprising signings of the summer, but it is just what Manchester United need as they have been crying out for a player of his type for years.

Casemiro was a vital part of Real Madrid's success as he won four Champions League titles with the Spanish side.

"He understands football. Although it's a different it's a different stadium, different environment, he'll get used to it quickly because of his intelligence, you don't play in those levels what a level of intelligence.

I'm not too concerned with him on the ball, he'll give it to the players that are there to create, that's been his game his whole career.

He's the only midfield player in the Man United set-up who knows how to defend instinctively."

At the other end, David De Gea made a vital save from former Manchester United midfielder James Garner to keep Manchester United in front, as they held on to move into fifth place.
