Robbie Keane has today confirmed that after the most outstanding career in the history of Irish football, it is time to hang up his boots, at least in an international sense... LA Galaxy fans are probably delighted.
The news broke just after 4pm on Wednesday evening, and while we have been expecting this for some time, it still seems surreal that there will be Irish squads named without Robbie Keane in them from now on.
But here we are. Keano has been a part of the Irish setup for longer than many of the Irish fans who travelled to France can remember, and even. From his debut in 1998 right up until 2016, Robbie was the heart and soul of the Irish team.
From being the entire attack for the first half, and then the leader for the second half of his international career both on the pitch and in the dressing room, nobody loved pulling on their country's jersey more than Robbie Keane.
