It's been a weird Transfer Deadline Day for those that have been keeping up with the action all day long.

Thomas Lemar, Alexis Sanchez, and Virgil Van Dijk were all players expecting to push mega-money through moves, but all three will remain at their clubs until January at least.

Another man who was expecting to be changing clubs was Everton's Ross Barkley, who got as far as having a medical with Chelsea before it emerged that he was heading back to Liverpool having not completed the deal.

The reason? He changed his mind. During the medical.

Everton's majority stakeholder Farhad Moshiri confirmed to Sky Sports News that Barkley was in the middle of his medical when he changed his mind and headed back to Liverpool.

That is bizarre.

Surely the trip down to London would have been enough time to contemplate whether he wanted to do it, and usually when a player gets to the medical stage of a deal it's usually been agreed upon, but clearly Barkley was able to find a way out.

After Ronald Koeman clearly stated that Ross Barkley was not in his plans, the England international may have to wait until January to get the move he actually wants, which is presumably Spurs given their persistent interest over the summer.

We'll see what happens when he returns from injury in a few weeks, but seemingly he'd rather wait at Everton than sign for Chelsea.
