Roy Keane Massively Unimpressed By 'Embarassing' Harry Maguire Celebration

Roy Keane Massively Unimpressed By 'Embarassing' Harry Maguire Celebration

You'd have thought the international break might have brought some kind of stalemate to the never-ending bickering and infighting that has plagued Manchester United this season. But a goal celebration from England and Manchester United captain Harry Maguire tonight inspired plenty of vitriol from Roy Keane, and surfaced all of the enmity of the past six weeks that has plagued Old Trafford.

The former Manchester United captain was watching England pulverise Albania 5-0 tonight from the ITV punditry box at Wembley. Maguire opened the scoring for England with a headed ninth minute goal and celebrated by cupping his hands to ears before sticking his fingers in his ears while completing a kneeslide. That celebration - one could argue - might have been aimed at Maguire's many detractors this season, a group that Roy Keane could be voted chairman of.

During ITV's halftime analysis, Roy Keane aired some strong opinions about Maguire.

He was unimpressed.

"He puts his hands to his ears like he's shutting his critics up... it's embarrassing. He's been a disgrace last few months for Manchester United, he scores and he thinks he's going to shut his critics up, it's embarrassing."

Fellow pundit Ian Wright backed up Keane's sentiment.

"The thing is, you just don’t need to do that,' he said. 'You look at that now and you think you don’t need to do that now because you’ve still got a lot of football to play.

'So don’t give them the opportunity to say, “right, we’ve got him”. Just play the game Harry.'"

It's not the first time this season Roy Keane has thrown verbal daggers in Maguire's direction from the punditry box.

He debuted an unflattering Maguire impersonation on the evening that Manchester United beat Spurs 3-0 last month, and said Maguire was 'like a robot' when addressing the media after Liverpool hockeyed Manchester United at Old Trafford last month.

He went on to say:

Harry Maguire talking about 'we need to come together as a group', no you need to sort your game out! If you're going to be the leader of that group you need to do the basics right and do your own job.

People are saying he might not be fit. Might not be fit? He gave a goal away against Leicester that had nothing to do with fitness, it was a lack of professionalism and not doing his job properly.
