Roy Keane Showed No Mercy For The Misfortune Of John Guidetti

With virtually the final kick of last night's Europa League semi-final second leg between Man Utd and Celta Vigo, Claudio Beauvue could have ripped away the straw which Jose Mourinho has been grasping in recent months.

Winning the Europa League and the Champions League qualification which comes with it turns a disappointing season into an acceptable one.

Mourinho would not even have had the opportunity to claim that on May 24th against Ajax if substitute Beauvue had scored with the clock deep into the red at Old Trafford. Rather than take the obvious option to shoot, Beauvue decided to square the ball to teammate John Guidetti. The Swede was unable to convert the opportunity.

Speaking on ITV's highlights of the Europa League semi-finals, Roy Keane said it was obvious Beauvue is not on a goal bonus.

You'd a shot on target, just to shoot. It's the wrong decision. A shot on target, simple as that.

No excuses for not shooting there. He's obviously not on a goal bonus.

Hit the target. Have a strike on goal. It's six or seven yards out.

Prompted by Mark Pougatch's suggestion that Guidetti had not looked particularly nimble throughout the game, Keane agreed, and more.

He's never looked nimble in his career.

I know it's come quick to him. Your advice to anyone in the box, [especially] strikers, is anticipate the ball coming to you.

He's just on his heels. He doesn't react. Look at the guy.

Keane also said he was glad that Guidetti missed that late chance due to his behaviour less than ten minutes early when Eric Bailly was sent off.

A disaster for him but he deserved to go. The usual stuff, he raised his hands.

Guidetti, you're now glad in a sense that he's missed the chance at the end because his behaviour here - just rolling around on the floor - it's disgusting.

But you raise your hands and you're in trouble. He's a big loss.
