With Everton's place in the Premier League now secured, their attentions will quickly turn towards planning their squad for next season.

The club's buying power will be limited due to their recent financial issues, but it is likely that Sean Dyche will look to add some new faces to the team over the coming months. As well as that, they will have to make a decision on the futures of some of their current squad members.

Seamus Coleman is a prime example.

The Donegal man has made just ten Premier League appearances this season, and considering his age and injury record, it would be fair to wonder about handing him a new deal. The right back's contract expires at the end of the season.

However, considering his influence at Goodison Park, it will come as no surprise to learn that Coleman is likely to extend his time at the club beyond the current campaign.

Sean Dyche gives update on Seamus Coleman's Everton future

Even when Seamus Coleman is not in the Everton team, his influence at the club cannot be overstated. He is a huge presence on Merseyside having first arrived there in 2009.

Speaking ahead of the game against Sheffield United this weekend, Sean Dyche was asked about the defender's future at the club.

Dyche said that while nothing had been finalised yet, Coleman has made it clear to his manager that he intends to carry on playing. He also said that the Irishman has all the attributes to be a successful coach if he opts to go down that route when he eventually does retire.

It's ongoing (discussions). I’ve already spoken to him about his view and I said to reflect on where you’re at. I think his thirst is to keep playing so we’ll be looking into that.

I don’t think there’s any reason to wonder about his last game – or not at this stage – that’s his words, not mine. He’s made it clear at this stage that his mindset is to keep playing...

I think he’s absorbed a lot from a lot of different experiences here, for a player who has been here so long, the good part of all of the turnover of managers is you can learn a lot from the varying inputs, varying styles and ways of working and I think he likes that.

He knows the club like the back of his hand. Yes I could see him (coaching) in the future but it’s if he chooses to. These players are different now.

Players at this level, you’ve had 14 years at a club like this, maybe 15, they have choices now. When I was finishing, you didn’t have a choice, you had to do something.

Despite being 35-years old, it seems that Seamus Coleman has every intention of continuing his playing career at Everton next season.

Considering everything he brings to the table, that can only be good news for the club.
