Diego Simeone and Xabi Alonso have both been charged with improper conduct by UEFA after last Saturday's Champions League final.

Simeone has been hit with a charge for improper conduct following his altercation on the field of play with Real defender Raphael Varane. In the aftermath of Ronaldo's penalty which made it 4-1  to Real, the Frenchman kicked the ball in Simeone's direction, which provoked the Argentine into whacking the ball back towards Varane before charging onto the field to angrily confront him. A suspension for the early part of next year's competition looks likely.

Meanwhile, and altogether more harshly, Xabi Alonso may face a charge following his encroachment onto the field following Gareth Bale's goal. The suspended midfielder was sitting in the stands for the evening and rushed onto the field to celebrate what proved to be the decisive goal of the game. Regulations prevent suspended players from entering the field of play at any time.

Both teams have also been charged with receiving more than five yellow cards each, and could possibly be fined after their fans lit flares inside the stadium.

All charges will be dealt with on July 17.
