Sky Are Making A Major Change To How You Can Watch Sport

We've never judged anyone for ever watching a match on a totally 100% legal stream (shush!) or in the pub. Mainly because they've not got enough expendable income, or they could enjoy the atmosphere.

That could all be about to change though, as Rupert Murdoch's machine are revamping their entire system

According to the Guardian, we could be seeing an end to Sky Sports 1,2,3,4 & 5 for a package which is two-thirds cheaper.

The new offering will result in the launch of themed channels, like Sky’s existing dedicated Formula One channel, for its top-flight sports including football – which will get two channels – golf and cricket. A new channel, Sky Sports Arena, will host other content including rugby and tennis.

The new strategy will allow Sky to charge £18 for its cheapest package – although the whole Sky Sports bundle will remain a costly option.

Sky's major payout for the Premier League rights backfired when viewing figures plummetted this season. This new offering could entice those viewers back in. For example, if a fan just wanted to watch the major football, rugby and NFL games, they could put specifically get that package. No need to pay for cricket which you're not going to watch anyway.

The specific channels have not been 100% confirmed as of writing. The company has been steadily losing the rights to major sporting events for the last couple of years. Most notably the Champions League to BT. The Guardian also claimed that Sky may have now lost the rights to the ATP Tennis tour events.

It remains to be seen when exactly the change will happen, but it's one to definitely keep an eye on.

Is there anything to be said for a GAA-specific channel?! British people might actually watch it then.
