The Top 10 Sports Games Ever On Playstation 2, As Voted For By Balls.ie Readers

Two weeks ago, to celebrate the 15 year birthday of the iconic Playstation 2, we asked our readers to vote for the best sports games ever seen on the console.

And you did! Thanks for that.

With so much time dedicated to that magical little system we thought it would be close at the top, and it was, but we can now reveal how our readers voted the top 10.

#10 - Pro Evolution Soccer 4

Wow. We have to admit we are surprised to see PES 4 so low in the list. Clearly nobody read our 11 Reasons Why We Loved Pro Evolution Soccer 4.

#9 - Rugby 06

A good finish for a solid game, although maybe that utterly brilliant cover gave it a boost?

#8 - Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004

The daddy of all the golf games earned a respectable ranking in the poll, good to see. We eagerly await the new direction the series is headed with announcement of Rory McIlroy PGA Tour.

#7 - Pro Evolution Soccer 6

Again, outside the top 5 seems quite low for such a universally loved game, seen by many as the best footy game ever. Better luck next time Adriano.

#6 - Rugby 08

The best Rugby game since Jonah Lomu Rugby narrowly misses out on the top 5, there hasn't been a decent rugby game since.

#5 - FIFA Street

This one is a real surprise. Sure, FIFA Street was a fun game, but we really didn't see it breaking into the top 10, let alone the top 5. There you go, a sleeper hit.

#4 - Pro Evolution Soccer 5

No PES game in the top 3 is a complete and utter shock, but you've voted PES 5 as the best of the bunch and it's hard to argue.

#3 - FIFA 2003

Wow! A FIFA game in the top 3, ahead of all the PES titles?! 2003 was indeed the last good FIFA game before PES became king of the PS2, it must have been the unique free-kick system and the bloody brilliant cover.

#2 - WWF Smackdown: Just Bring It!

What a game. Deserving of a place in the top 2 is a fantastic wrestling game that was released at the peak of WWF's popularity. We needed a big wrestling game at the time, and THQ delivered.

#1 - Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3

Yes! We are absolutely delighted to see Tony Hawks 3 take the crown. Clearly you all ready our 12 Reasons Why Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 Was The Best Video Game Of All Time, and clearly you put as many hours into endless grinding as we did, because you voted it the best game on the system, and again, we couldn't be happier.
