Ireland boss Stephen Kenny confirmed that Darren Randolph was on the verge of completing two loan moves on transfer deadline day before both fell through at the final hurdle.

Randolph has struggled for game time at West Ham under David Moyes, and a move from the London Stadium would have been a welcome shot in the arm if it were to be completed.

The 34-year-old from Bray has also seen his Ireland ambitions suffer in recent months given his lack of game time.

With Travers being a late withdrawal, Bohemians keeper James Talbot was called up in his place.

When asked why Randolph was not called up instead, Kenny confirmed the player rejected his advances due to a possible transfer deal being in ht offing.

I spoke to Darren [Randolph]. I asked him about coming in before James [Talbot] came in.

At that stage it was coming up to transfer deadline day. His move didn't materialise but he was on the verge of moving on loan to two clubs.

It was transfer deadline day so he fully expected that he wasn't going to play.

I respect that. I tried to bring Darren in but I couldn't.

Just last week, Randolph had to come out on social media to confirm that he did not retire from international football.

And now, it seems like it was a perfectly good reason that prevented his call-up.

A lot of people asking if I've retired from international football.  I haven't, I'm fit and training I just wasn't selected.

Long time to go before I choose to retire.

With the door still open for an international return for Randolph, it is becoming apparent that he needs game time sooner rather than later.
