Their Champions League hopes ended by Legia Warsaw during the week, Dundalk have the consolation of a place in the Europa League.

On Friday, they were handed a tough Group D draw in European football's second tier competition. They will face Zenit St. Petersburgh, AZ Alkmaar and Maccabi Tel-Aviv.

There was the possibility of Dundalk getting what some would have considered a dream tie - Man Utd. Instead, Jose Mourinho's side drew Fenerbahce, Feyenoord, Zorya Luhansk.

In the eyes of Dundalk manager Stephen Kenny, Man Utd were not the ideal draw. A game against Man Utd, played at the Aviva, would have seen a jam-packed stadium. It would also have seen more Man Utd fans present than those supporting Dundalk.

Kenny told the Irish Examiner that is a situation which would have left him 'embarrassed'.

I know people were wondering about drawing Manchester United but that’s not a game I would have particularly wanted personally.

I think I would have been embarrassed playing in Lansdowne Road with more people there supporting an English team than ourselves.

I would have found that difficult to comprehend.
