We have a serious issue with social media in football at the minute.

These platforms are being used to direct some shocking abuse at both players and managers, with Premier League clubs taking part in a social media boycott this weekend to protest the lack of action being taken at the moment.

One manager who certainly receives his fair share of abuse online is Steve Bruce. It's fair to say that he isn't exactly liked by a majority of Newcastle supporters, many of whom feel he is not good enough to manage the club.

While Bruce himself is not a user of social media, he did recently see some of the abuse directed his way.

Speaking at a press conference earlier today, he said he was shocked to see some of the stuff being said about him online when shown by his son. However, he said social media isn't all bad.

I was talking with my son about abuse a referee was getting & he said ‘Dad, it’s nothing compared to what you get.’ I looked & was like ‘wow’.

But on the flip side social media got me my dog back after it ran away from a Firework display.

So I’m all for the boycott because we should all be accountable for what we write. People shouldn’t be allowed to write these things.

I continually worry about young, vulnerable people and the affects it has on them.

We're delighted that he got his dog back.

It's unclear if his Bruce's ran away from home because of fireworks, but questions must be asked if the 60-year old actually went out of his way to bring his dog to a firework display.

This was probably Steve Bruce's second most iconic press conference answer, trailing only his apparently unhealthy obsession with bacon.
