Michael Carrick's testimonial has been one of the most eagerly anticipated in recent memory after it emerged that the format for the friendly at Old Trafford would be Man Utd's 08 Champions League winning side vs a stacked team of legends including Shay Given, Damien Duff, Robbie Keane, Jamie Carragher, Steven Gerrard, and Frank Lampard.

Unfortunately, the absolutely sensational lineups lost a few names by the time kick-off rolled around, and it emerged that both Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard would be unable to play.

We're not sure why Lampard couldn't make it, but Gerrard's injury was actually picked up in a friendly match arranged by BT Sport, and they played the moment he got injured live on air as part of their Champions League final preview show.

Gerrard injured his hamstring scoring a goal, but at least it was an absolute cracker.

Technique.

The lineups were still excellent for Carrick's testimonial, and judging by the reaction across social media Paul Scholes and Clarence Seedorf still look capable of playing at a high level.

We can only imagine Gerrard's is genuinely gutted about missing the game, as he developed a fondness for playing at Old Trafford later in his career.
