Here's What Will Happen If You Suggest Terry Venables As The New Ireland Manager

If Martin O'Neill does leave the Irish job for Stoke today, tomorrow, or next week, we're in for some very entertaining arguments while we wait for the FAI to make their next appointment.

The period in between Ireland managers has always been a glorious, ridiculous silly season full of tension, anger, disappointment, and yet, hope. Even the most stable minds in the game tend to lose their minds (See John Giles' campaign to appoint Paul Jewell), so you can only imagine what Eamon Dunphy gets up to when there's an Irish manager's job to be filled.

Before the FAI found their man in Giovanni Trapattoni in 2007, there was a point when Terry Venables looked like the man that would be chosen. This was not something Mr. Dunphy was happy with at all. Perhaps the day he discovered Wikipedia, as Balls' Gavin Cooney described it today, he presented an astonishing dossier live on RTE as to why this travesty simply could not happen.

Whether or not Eamon's points swung the decision or not, the Venables rumours went nowhere, and because of that, this moment is slightly lost to history. It was astonishing, incredible television though, and perhaps Dunphy's finest hour.

For nearly 20 minutes, Dunphy laid out the reasons that El Tel wasn't the man for the job. Enjoy!
