In advance of Wednesday’s massive game against England at Wembley, which is being shown live on Setanta Ireland, we are starting the build up, bringing you back to that infamous night and plotting the key storylines that makes May 29th, one of the biggest nights of the sporting calendar.

The Granny rule has served Ireland well over the years. We've had major successes with Mick McCarthy, Kevin Kilbane and John Aldridge and also the less successful ones like Caleb Folan and Alex Bruce.

This is the best English born Irish XI we believe though. It totals 641 caps and 72 goals for Ireland.

Alan Kelly provides a save pair of hands behind a solid back four of Chris Morris (who now runs his family's Cornish pasty company), Mark Lawrenson, Mick McCarthy and Terry Phelan.

There are goals in midfield with Grealish and Townsend and providers of them too in McAteer and Kilbane.

Up front are two men in the top six of Ireland's all time goalscorers in Aldridge and Cascarino who total nineteen each for the Boys in Green.
