The Eva Carneiro Situation Has Just Got A Lot Worse For Jose Mourinho

It was clear that as soon as Eva Carneiro failed to return to work, Chelsea would have some legal trouble on their hands very quickly. You don't need to have a sharp legal mind to know that what happened to the former Chelsea doctor is, at the very least, grounds for a constructive dismissal case.

Sure enough, last week brought news that Carneiro's legal advisers had served the Stamford Bridge club with notice of a constructive dismissal claim. That came after the two parties had failed to reach an out-of-court settlement.

Chelsea would surely have been expecting that legal battle but what is much more of a surprise, and much more of an intriguing development is that Carneiro is now also pursuing an individual legal claim against Jose Mourinho.

Carneiro had make it very clear that she was less than pleased with the FA's decision to clear Mourinho of any wrongdoing in relation to a charge of abusive, sexist language. However, it now appears that the Gibraltar born doctor has decided to take her case further by beginning legal proceedings against Mourinho himself.

While the cases against Chelsea and Mourinho are intrinsically connected, Sky Sports are reporting that 'under employment law, an individual can be personally liable for damages if victimisation or discrimination can be proved'.

Given the fact that a large amount of his current troubles can be traced back to that game against Swansea in August, this is the last thing Mourinho would have wanted as he continues to fight for his job.
