As on so many other nights, twitter is currently playing host to an orgy of laddish schadenfreude as the b****r brigade take stock of the news that Rafa Benitez now has a relegation on his CV.
Sam Allardyce's judgement on his fallen peer seems eminently sensible.
"It wasn't his fault, was it?" was the Big One's response to the realisation that Rafa is technically headed for the second tier of English football.
Not having operated at the same level as Sam down the years, Rafa just doesn't the same flair for guiding a team to 17th spot.
One might have expected Steve McClaren to dodge the cameras and slip out of the country like a disgraced banker. To his credit, he isn't doing that. The man who put in much of the groundwork that made tonight's relegation possible will front up before the Sky cameras this weekend.
He may avoid a grilling. For he has opted to appear on the 'Goals on Sunday' coach with Burnley manager Sean Dyche.
Paddy Power have promptly installed as 14/1 to be the next Everton manager. Reports from Newcastle suggest that Benitez is willing to hang around for a while longer.
One would have thought that a man of such vaulting ambition would struggle to stomach the trip to Burton Albion.
