'There Was No Way Jack Was Going To Accept' - Grealish's Father On Ireland Call-Up

If it's not the marriage referendum, it's Jack Grealish. The country is divided. On one hand you have the 'he should know by now' crowd on the other you have the 'we have to tread carefully' crowd. There's no talking to one another. You're in one camp or the other.

Grealish himself is sticking to his word. He said he would not play international football this year and that is still the case. Kevin Grealish, the 19 year old's father, has said that although his son appreciated the O'Neill's intentions to call him up to the squad for the England game, it was never an option to accept.

We appreciated the call from Martin yesterday but there was no way Jack was going to accept. Jack opted to take the year out to concentrate on Aston Villa and that decision has proved to be correct one based upon how he’s doing lately.

It would be the same answer if England were to make an approach. If Villa had nothing to play at this stage of the season, then we might have thought more about it. But now is not the right time.

To be fair to Grealish, he has said that he would not be playing international football again this year. O'Neill trying to force his hand with a call up was hardly going to do little to help that. It just means we'll have to deal with this saga for another while yet.
