The undisputed king of TV punditry since 2011 will not even be the most highly paid at his own station next year.

Gary Neville earns £1.2 million a year in his current role. The recently retired Thierry Henry will come on board at a reported salary of £4 million a year.

Henry won acclaim for his performance as an analyst during this year's World Cup - in which he showcased his poetry reading skills.

Both are allowed side projects by their Sky paymasters. Gary Neville will continue in his quest to help England do something at a major tournament, while Thierry Henry will be allowed work with the BBC at major tournaments, no doubt hanging out at the Eiffel Tower or the Kremlin or wherever spectacularly opulent location they opt to set up their studio in 2016 and 2018.

BT Sport is an absolute no-no, however.

Richard Keys, meanwhile, will have to keep to taking graceless and unsubtle potshots at Gary Neville via his twitter account. Thierry Henry will be added to his list of targets.
