Three Premier League Top Scorer Tips For Their New Season

The Premier League is almost upon us, we're now just three days away and time is running out to get your bets for the season on. Today focuses on the Premier League top-scorers, and here are my picks.

Top English Goalscorer: Wayne Rooney - 5/2

It's realistically going to be between Rooney and Harry Kane, the former still managed 12 goals last year while playing out of position for the majority of the season.

Louis Van Gaal has said he's going to play Rooney centrally this season and the last time he played a whole season as Manchester United's first choice centre forward was 2011/12, when he scored 27 goals.

While I expect Hurri-Kane to score goals this year, I'm not sure he'll match last season's haul of 21, and I think Rooney will surpass it.

Top Newcastle Goalscorer: Aleksandar Mitrovic - 9/4

Newcastle's £13m striker is a crazy price for their individual top scorer. The 20-year-old Serbian netted 28 goals for Anderlecht last season, including scoring against Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.

The main threat is Papiss Cisse, who's not going to return to the form of his Newcastle arrival when he scored 13 from January to May in 2012.

Get on it quick, as I expect it to shorten.

Top Scorer: Wayne Rooney 9/1

There's value at 9/1, for the reasons I've said above and a few others. The favourites are obviously Sergio Aguero (3/1) and Diego Costa (6/1), who are undeniably the most lethal finishers in the league, but are also injury prone.

Given Manchester United's signings, and the lack of defensive reinforcement, we can expect very attacking football at Old Trafford this season, and Rooney will be the focal point.

Manchester City haven't strengthened considerably despite £49m signing Raheem Sterling, and given the improvement of their rivals, Jose Mourinho may adopt defensive tactics earlier this season, so I fancy Rooney at that price.

Best of lucky ahead of the new season.
