Liverpool fullback Trent Alexander-Arnold threw the rare non-dig dig at Manchester City for their lack of success in the Champions League.

Alexander-Arnold was speaking at a press conference ahead of Liverpool's tie against Inter Milan in the first leg of the Round of 16 in the Champions League tonight.

When asked about this Liverpool's side lack of success in terms of quantity of trophies he had this to say:

We don't feel disappointed that we haven't won enough trophies because i feel like the trophies we have won are the biggest and the best that you can get your hand on. Obviously, not making any digs but you look at Man City's amazing team they have and they haven't been able to lift the Champions League, they've won a couple of Premier Leagues but they haven't won the Champions League, we've won both in the last few years so it shows that we're able to do it in both competitions.

It's well know that City have fallen short in Europe over recent years. They've been knocked out by the likes of Lyon, Monaco and even fellow Premier League sides Liverpool and Spurs before losing in the final last year to Chelsea. They seem to be able to walk the league against the same Premier League sides but just have this hoodoo when they meet in the Champions League. With all the money they've spent as well, they really should've won a Champions League by now.

Clearly, Alexander-Arnold was not trying to cause offense in Manchester, but Liverpool fans on Twitter enjoyed the line anyway.

Trent Alexander-Arnold also spoke about Liverpool wanting to win more trophies and what the standards are among the squad.

I think there's an expectation now, as a team, as players to win trophies. I think one trophy minimum a season is what we need to be achieving and next week we have the opportunity to go and grab that. With the squad we got, the team of players, the manager we should be winning trophies, we expect that of ourselves and if we don't, it's a massive disappointment.

They get a chance to win a trophy Sunday week when they face Chelsea in the final of the Carabao Cup. However before then they have their first leg tie in the Round of 16 in the Champions League against Italian Champions Inter Milan tonight in a mouth-watering tie.
