As the Premier League returned after a six week break, you will struggle to find a happier person than Shay Given after Newcastle's win.

After becoming a regular on our television screens during the action in Qatar, Shay Given was on Amazon Prime for the St Stephen's day action.

In one of the stories of the season, Newcastle started the day in third place as they have taken full advantage of their investment last year.

They faced a Leicester side that were second best all day, as Newcastle made light work of them in a comfortable 3-0 victory at the King Power Stadium.

Two goals from Chris Wood and Miguel Almiron put them 2-0 up after seven minutes, while Joelington added further misery with Newcastle's third in the 32nd minute.

Shay Given Ecstatic

It's exciting times for Newcastle fans at at the moment, who couldn't have imagined how quickly their fortunes would change under Eddie Howe.

The way in which the owners have obtained their investment has been viewed as controversial, but the fans will quickly forget if this form continues. Under Eddie Howe, they are playing some great football and producing results on a weekly basis.

Among the excited Newcastle fans today was Shay Given, who even claimed Newcastle could be in title contention

I kind of said it tongue and cheek, but after the first half, I'm actually going all in now. It was an amazing first half for Newcastle absolutely flying, and of course as Conor mentioned in commentary, they'll be up to second tonight if it stays this way of course."

Winning the Premier League might be beyond Newcastle's this early into their project. Nevertheless, Newcastle fans loved Shay Given's enthusiasm through the day.

If Newcastle continue this level of performance, expect more excitement from Shay Given as they celebrate their best position in the league in years.
