Finally, Louis Van Gaal's appointment has been made official and now the internet swiftly moves on to see what the summer will bring.

The backroom team

His backroom staff will be made up of Giggs, obviously, and Frans Hoek and Marcel Bout. So there's been no mention of Phil Neville or Paul Scholes, leaving us left to assume they won't wont be involved with the club any more.

Hoek will come aboard as goalkeeping coach, while Bout apparently specialises in opposition scouting. He previously worked with Van Gaal at Bayern Munich.

The likely captain

While Rooney had been touted as Vidic's replacement a few months back, as we reported a couple of weeks ago, it looks like Van Gaal may opt to appoint his current Holland captain Robin Van Persie.

Van Gaal was full of praise for RVP at the weekend, saying 'Always, you make a player captain when you have more or less the same philosophy, not only about football tactics but also about life. So I think that's very important. I believe that Van Persie and Van Gaal [have] the same philosophy.'

His transfer targets

I always take transfer gossip with a serious pinch of salt but last week both The Times and the Guardian claimed that Van Gaal had sent his wishlist to United in advance of his unveiling.

The main target, who has been brought up numerous times in the media since, appears to be Arjen Robben, who may be tempted to work under Van Gaal again despite the fact that it would have to be considered a step down from Bayern Munich. Other names on Van Gaal's list are said to be Mats Hummels, Toni Kroos and Thomas Muller, along with the approval of a move for Luke Shaw.

When he'll start

Depending on when they get eliminated, Van Gaal could start as late as 13 July if Holland reach the World Cup final.

What odds are United to win the league?

If you're very optimistic about Van Gaal's chances of success, United have gone in to 11/2 to win the league since he was officially appointed.
