As an Arsenal fan I could tell you of the horrors of not having a reliable goalkeeper. Manuel Almunia has probably taken untold years off my life expectancy. When Ireland played it was relief, I no longer had to worry about being emotionally invested in a team whose goalkeeper should've been attached to a bungee cord to ensure he didn't go walkabout. Shay Given was the safest pair of hands that Ireland ever had and I regret that Arsenal never had them too.
