FC Midtjylland announced themselves to the footballing world when they managed to beat Manchester United 2-1 in the Europa league last season. Well today Midtjylland got the benefit of one of the worst refereeing decisions we have ever seen as midfielder Gustav Wikheim took the ball on the wing, beat his man before walking the ball over the goal-line. He punted the ball into the box anyway and everybody stopped playing expecting a goal kick to be given.

Oddly enough the whistle never went and Midtjylland right-back Andre Romer reacted quickest to knock the ball into the net beating the half-hearted efforts of the Nordsjaelland defenders.

The goal stood and they found themselves 3-0 to the surprise of everyone, as you can imagine there were a few words which resulted in 5 cards being dished out in two minutes and 6 more before the game finished ten minutes later.

The good news is we may be on the verge of seeing the end of such dubious decisions as video refereeing is currently being trialed at the FIFA Under 20 World Cup in Korea. We also saw the technology showcased in a friendly between Spain and France which saw an Antoine Griezmann effort ruled out for offside after the referee held a lengthy consultation with officials.
