Video: Things Got Awkward Between Trevor Croly And Alan Cawley On Soccer Republic

Fair play to Trevor Croly for standing up and being counted by appearing on Soccer Republic on Monday night following his recent sacking from Shamrock Rovers. Getting the chance to hear a manger speak frankly about his sacking was refreshing stuff but one person who probably wasn't too keen on Croly's appearance was former Shelbourne (and many more!) midfielder Alan Cawley.

Cawley made headlines on last week's programme when he stated that Croly's side had 'no identity'.

If you asked me to describe Shamrock Rovers, I wouldn't know where to start. The manager is there a year-and-a-half and he still hasn't put a stamp on things. When he came into the job I actually thought he would do well. He came in as a very well regarded coach, which was fine.

But the problem is that he is not a coach any more. He is the manager and it's a whole different ball game as he is finding out. I look at his interviews week in, week out and it's the same rhetoric every week. He is uninspiring, I feel, listening to him. Shamrock Rovers, at the moment, I don't know where they are going.

Croly was duly sacked following a 4-1 defeat to Limerick and Cawley was forced to explain his comments in front of Croly on Monday's programme.

Before that, Croly had spoken about his departure following the defeat to Limerick and he was certainly up front with his analysis of the situation.

Of course Cawley wasn't always so critical of Croly. Last season he stated that St Pats would struggle as they had lost the "Croly factor". They went on to win the league while Croly's Rovers finished 5th.
