The world of football was rocked earlier this week when it was announced that the Premier League had hit Manchester City with 115 charges relating to the division's financial rules.

The charges relate to the club allegedly being dishonest about their income and expenditure streams from 2009-2018, with potential punishments including point deductions or even relegation. This investigation had been ongoing for around four years.

Of course, there have long been questions about the validity of Manchester City's financial accounts. They were handed a two-year ban from European football after breaching UEFA's Financial Fairplay Rules, only for that to later be overturned in the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Vincent Kompany not having Manchester City criticisms

Vincent Kompany was one of the key figures at Manchester City during this period. Having arrived at the club just prior to the Abu Dhabi takeover, he would go on to captain the club to four Premier League titles before leaving the Etihad in 2019.

Unsurprisingly, he does not seem to be that concerned with the charges handed to his former side.

The now Burnley boss hinted that football is not in a position to criticise Manchester City due to other issues in the game.

I kind of look at it and sometimes roll my eyes a little bit.

No doubt there’s a lot of righteousness in the world to come and tell you what you’ve done wrong, and then if everybody looks at themselves, I think the football industry in general is not one that can afford to point the finger too many times.

I think all of you will have a little bit of a smile on your face to know what the football industry is about. I’m very sceptical when people start pointing fingers.

Do the best for yourself and let’s try and improve all the time but I’m a little bit sceptical when the fingers get pointed easily.

It is likely that it will take some time before the outcome of this process is decided on, with Manchester City set to deny all charges laid against them.

We could be waiting quite a while before we hear the end of this.
