During the first half in Marseille tonight, with the score still 0-0, France almost scored the goal of the tournament. Griezmann, by now a shoo-in for the golden boot, was the brightest star in the move again.

After Germany partially cleared their lines after a pass from Sissouko didn't stick, Griezmann and Matuidi conjured a chance down the left wing, with a couple of ostentatious back-flicks tossed into the mix.

It ended with Griezmann zooming into the box and attempting to place a shot into the right corner. He didn't quite connect with the ball crisply enough or direct it surely enough to beat Neuer. Shame. Would have been beautiful.

France head for the final. They are big favourites to extend their magnificent record as tournament hosts.
