While Dundalk manager Stephen Kenny will be bitterly disappointed by falling at the final hurdle of Champions League qualification, he can take great pride in the way his team have performed on this run which has the highly valuable consolation prize of a spot in the Europa League group stages.

Dundalk drew 1-1 away in Poland, with another late goal breaking ultimately ending the Champions League dream after a truly fantastic goal from Robbie Benson. Legia were down to 10 men for the final 20 minutes or so, and with the tie balanced the way it was, Dundalk fans would have been hoping for a siege on the home team's goal, but sadly that never came to fruition.

In the TV3 Studio post-match, Dundalk captain Stephen O'Donnell and Kevin Kilbane both pointed to fitness and physicality as the reasons for the lack of a push late on, but Brian Kerr had his own theory.

Typically insightful from Kerr, the more he talks, the more we have to shake our head in bemusement that he isn't involved with the FAI.

Every time he appears on TV he talks nothing but sense, and while his memory on Estonian defenders may be a bit fuzzy, he knows Irish football like few else.

Irish football's loss is TV3's gain.
