Under Louis Van Gaal, Manchester United's system for determining who takes the penalties was clear; A competition in training to create a list of priority, if you miss, you go to the back of the queue.
Under Mourinho, things are a little less clear but when Anthony Martial was fouled in the first-half against Benfica on Tuesday night, he dusted himself off and claimed the right to take his free shot on goal. The Frenchman missed, but as he was off the pitch when United's second penalty of the night was awarded, he was not in consideration to take it.
Romalu Lukaku - who has not scored in five games - was the first man to put his hand up, but then an odd scenario played out as Ander Herrera took the ball away from him, only for Daley Blind to emerge from left-back and claim the responsibility.
After a quick discussion, Blind scored the penalty and was congratulated by both Lukaku and Herrera, so what exactly happened?
As you can see from the above footage, the second the penalty is awarded Mourinho can be seen telling Blind to get his arse in gear and take the penalty.
In the meantime, Herrera has told Lukaku that it's his turn for a spot kick, and when Blind emerges you can also see Lukaku asking Mourinho if he should be taking the penalty, before shrugging his shoulders and walking away.
It seems as though Mourinho had Blind as his penalty taker after Martial, which seems strange with Lukaku eager to get back amongst the goals, but at the end of the day the ball hit the back of the net, so it's job done in that regard.
Good to see Herrera and Lukaku congratulating Blind, you can't help but feel the reaction would have been different had he missed.
